Left To Right Shunts: Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) image

The ductus arteriosus is an integral part of the normal fetal circulation allowing blood to bypass the fetal heart in utero. Failure of the ductus to close at birth can lead to a variety of clinical presentations depending on the duration, size, and co-existing congenital abnormalities. PDA accounts for 10% of congenital heart defects but is relatively rare in adults.

In this course, you will learn:

  • To describe the epidemiology of patent ductus arteriosus
  • To identify and recognize the physical findings associated with patent ductus arteriosus
  • To interpret angiographic and hemodynamic data associated with patent ductus arteriosus

Method and medium:

Learners participate in the interactive learning modules by correctly answering multiple choice questions dispersed throughout. Learners will be prompted to try again if a question is answered incorrectly.
